 WHY

Obesity – our health crisis.

Childhood obesity and related health problems are fast becoming a massive concern for not only Australia but for the world’s population.
Fast food, poor nutritional snack food, computer games and increased TV time are all contributing factors to this increasing dangerous health situation.

  •  -Type 2 Diabetes
  •  - Lethargy
  • -Cardiovascular disease
  • -Heat intolerance and breathlessness
  • -Flat feet
  • - Increased blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels
  • -and most importantly, an almost certainty that they will continue to be overweight into their adult life.

The risks of being overweight and obese for an adult are as follows:

  •         -Cardiovascular disease
  •         - Sleep Apnoea
  •         -Some cancers
  •         - Type 2 Diabetes and hypertension
  •         -musculo-skeletal problems

These are some of the physical effects, whilst obesity and being overweight also has been shown to have a negative impact on a child (and Adult’s) emotional state. Children whose weight falls significantly above the recommended weight range have an increased likely hood of developing or suffering depression.

The direct cost of obesity in Australia in 1990 was estimated at $464 million and this figure has obviously grown since and continues to grow at an alarming rate proportionately to the number of obese.
