Tri Fitness coaches are all highly qualified and specialists in their chosen fields. They all share the Tri Fitness philosophy and are proven at helping individuals achieve their personal goals and ultimate health and fitness.

Our four elite coaches have over 80 years of competitive experience in the sport of triathlon!

They have an extensive background in coaching athletes of all ability and fitness levels, from the general public and beginner triathletes to those who are looking for that competitive edge.

Jimmy Mundy

  • Bachelor of Education (Physical Education/Health) - University of Ballarat
  • Health and Physical Education teacher with over 20 yrs experience
  • Level Two Triathlon Coach
  • Successfully competed and finished 12 Ironman Races around the globe over a ten year period.
  • Completed in 12 Ironman Races worldwide, including 2 Hawaiian Ironman events (PB 9hrs 35min)
  • Competed in 5 Marathons worldwide, including 2 Boston Marathons (PB 2hrs 43min)
  • Motivational and Goal Setting Public Speaker
  • Event Commentator, including Orbea Triathlon series 2008 & 2009, Melbourne Marathon 2009 – current

  • 1st - 2004 Lake Geneva ½ Ironman, 4hrs 16min Overall Winner and race record.
  • 1st - 2005 Tasmanian ½ Ironman, 4hrs 26min (30-34yr old age group)
  • 3rd - 2006 Ironman Lake Placid, 9hrs 51min (30-34yr old age group - Qualified for World Championships in Hawaii 2006)
  • 3rd - 2005 Ironman New Zealand, 9hrs 35min (30-34yr old age group - Qualified for World Championships in Hawaii 2005)
  • 3rd - 2004 Tasmanian ½ Ironman, 4hrs 40min (30-34yr old age group)

Kane Malherbe

  • Level Two Triathlon coach
  • Professional Triathlete & Victorian Institute of Sport scholarship holder for 6 years
  • Competed in over 250 multi-sport events worldwide
  • 10 Ironman Finishes including top 20 in IM Brazil and IM New Zealand (Pro Male)
  • 1st in New York Musselman Half Ironman (Pro Male)
  • 2nd in Victorian Long Championships (Pro Male)
  • 3rd in Austrian Mountain Man Triathlon (Pro Male)
  • 5th in Australian Long course Championships (Pro Male)
  • 4th in Italian National Olympic Distance Championships (Pro Male)
  • 4th in Vineman California Half Ironman (Pro Male)
  • 8th in San Diego International Triathlon (Pro Male)
  • Half Ironman PB of 3hrs 52mins & Olympic Distance PB of 1hr 52mins

Matthew Dusting

  • Qualified Level One Triathlon coach
  • Competed in and finished 6 Ironmans (all sub 10 hours) and over 10 Half Ironmans
  • 9 hour 30 min Ironman debut in 2006, Hawaii Ironman 2010 (9 hrs 37 mins)
  • 1st Ager Grouper and 12th overall at Singapore Ironman 70.3 , 2008 (fastest bike and run split)
  • 5th overall at Mark Webber Challenge 2007, a 7 day adventure race in Tasmania


John Van Wisse - Swim Coach Extraordinaire!

  • World Record Holder - Arch to Arc 2014- Ultra triathlon race from London to Paris. 140km run, 34km swim, 289km bike!
  • 1st overall – Manhattan Island 48km marathon swim, USA, 2000, 2008 & 2009
  • Australian Record - Fastest Australian to swim English Channel, 1994, 8hrs 17min
  • Double Crossing of English Channel in 2010 (19hrs 55min)
  • 21 time!! winner of annual Winter Mile (Brighton Baths), most recently 2017.
  • 1st – 2001 New Zealand Half Ironman Championships 2001
  • 4th  – 2001 New Zealand Ironman (8hrs 32 min)
  • 1st out of the water Hawaii IM Championships 1999.
  • 1st out of the water Australian IM Championships 1999, 2000, 2001
  • 1st out of the water Ironman Germany (Roth, European Championships), 1999
  • 1st out of the water Ironman Lake Placid (New York) 1999 and 2001 (course record)
  • Australian Record - Portarlington to Frankston Marathon Swim, 1993
  • 1st Melbourne Marathon 1995, 20-25year old age group (2hrs 39min)
  • Coached 14 swimmers across the English Channel (including first Malaysian)
